In 2006, Pastor John Hagee said Hurricane Katrina was God's punishment for a gay pride parade scheduled in New Orleans.

John Hagee, the founder and senior pastor of a Texas megachurch who blamed Hurricane Katrina on homosexuality, has been diagnosed with COVID-19, according to Austin’s CBS News affiliate.

  • Hagee’s son announced in a Facebook livestream on Sunday that the pastor was diagnosed with the coronavirus on Friday.

“Pastor Hagee has been diligent throughout this entire COVID pandemic to monitor his health. And this past Friday, he was informed by his doctors that he did test positive for COVID,” Matt Hagee said. "It was one, discovered very early and two, his medical team has him under watchful care and three, he's feeling well enough to be frustrated by anyone in a white coat with a stethoscope."

  • In a 2006 interview, John Hagee suggested that the devastation wrought by Hurricane Katrina was God’s punishment for a gay pride parade.
  • Hagee noted that " there was to be a homosexual parade on the Monday that the Katrina came … I believe that the Hurricane Katrina was, in fact, the judgment of God against the city of New Orleans."
  • A publicist for Hagee attempted to backtrack two years later, saying in a statement on the pastor’s behalf that “ultimately neither I nor any other person can know the mind of God concerning Hurricane Katrina. I should not have suggested otherwise."
  • In addition, Macleans reported earlier this year:

Back in 2014 Texas televangelist John Hagee said that the Ebola outbreak was God’s punishment for President Barack Obama’s policies about Israel.

Every disaster is God's "response" to something according to Evangelicals unless it happens to them.
