If Ronald Reagan were alive right now, he would tell you that we still need to be VERY wary of Russia. They are not exactly allies, and I know they are not looking out for our country's best interest.

And we all know Buzz Feed are fake news. They make CNN look like the bastions of credibility.

While on the subject, lets assume that the Russian actually had "dirt" on Hilary Clinton, how would it be aiding a potential (or actual) enemy to use it to prevent someone becoming president who would be vulnerable to blackmail by a foreign govt or organisation? I'd say that would be doing the US a service. Short exercise, delete the word "Russian" from the whole deal and insert "Australian", would you still care?

RamsayBolton

Yep, so if anyone would be guilty of treason it'd be the Russians... except they're not at war with America.

The free dictionary definition isn't the legal definition - "Treason against the United States, shall consist only in levying War against them, or in adhering to their Enemies, giving them Aid and Comfort. No Person shall be convicted of Treason unless on the Testimony of two Witnesses to the same overt Act, or on Confession in open Court." is the US legal definition, since Russia is not the enemy of the USA can we now drop this nonsense?

Considering the US "fought" Russia in the Cold War and never fully made a peace accord, Don Jr's actions could, in fact, be treasonous, based on the legal definition.

Indeed, ridiculous assertion. Some people need to start worrying less about conspiracy theories and more about making fools of themselves.

Politenessman

No, it is not treason. Are you personally banned from talking to a non American in case they reveal 'dirt' on a politician? Russia is not an adversary, they are a nation that has its own interests.

runnergirl12

Getting "dirt" on a political opponent from a known foreign adversary is literally treason.

Politenessman
Politenessman

Why? do you think the FBI are going to want to hear every time someone says they have dirt on a politician?

runnergirl12
runnergirl12

@Politenessman, but couldn't it be argued that he should have told the FBI about the messages from a foreign infiltrator?

Politenessman

As I understand it, Jr got contacted by someone who said they had evidence that Hilary was doing something illegal with the Russian Govt, Jr attended the meet to assess the info and found it was a lobbying pitch and walked out. Nothing illegal, and if there had been incriminating evidence, you could argue that he had a social duty to look into it.

This story is blowing up in the media, I'm pretty sure it will be part of the Weekly Rundown this week. I don't think DJT did anything illegal, however I'm torn as to whether I find it unethical...
