@WellesleyGirl2016, I want your life!
@RamsayBolton, I've met both Clintons, Jeb Bush, Rep. Dave Reichert (WA), Gov. Jay Inslee, Rep. Joe Kennedy III (MA), and many others I don't feel like typing out right now.
Who else have you met, out of interest?
I guess we were talking about different people.
Hillary's college mentor was a professor of Political Science named Alan Schechter. Not Sen. Byrd. How would she have known him in college anyway?
"I've met Hillary's college mentor". You just confirmed that he was her mentor. And I hate to say it, but you also made out he wasn't in the KKK and now you're admitting he was.
And yes, I have met LOTS of interesting people on both sides of the political spectrum, if you must know.
Sen. Byrd was not Hillary's "mentor." He had a long career in the Senate, and I'm sure he influenced her in his later years in which he was no longer active in the KKK. Yes, I agree with you that he was far from perfect and indeed should have made more of an effort to denounce the KKK while he was in the Senate. Just out of curiosity though, what does a dead Senator's involvement in the KKK in the 1940s have to do with you First Amendment right not protecting you from "being shown the door?"
Obviously he needed to renounce the KKK to fulfill the destiny they themselves set out for him. "You have a talent for leadership, Bob ... The country needs young men like you in the leadership of the nation."
"Ku Klux Klan
In the early 1940s, Byrd recruited 150 of his friends and associates to create a new chapter of the Ku Klux Klan in Sophia, West Virginia.
According to Byrd, a Klan official told him, "You have a talent for leadership, Bob ... The country needs young men like you in the leadership of the nation." Byrd later recalled, "Suddenly lights flashed in my mind! Someone important had recognized my abilities! I was only 23 or 24 years old, and the thought of a political career had never really hit me. But strike me that night, it did." Byrd became a recruiter and leader of his chapter. When it came time to elect the top officer (Exalted Cyclops) in the local Klan unit, Byrd won unanimously.
In December 1944, Byrd wrote to segregationist Mississippi Senator Theodore G. Bilbo:
I shall never fight in the armed forces with a negro by my side ... Rather I should die a thousand times, and see Old Glory trampled in the dirt never to rise again, than to see this beloved land of ours become degraded by race mongrels, a throwback to the blackest specimen from the wilds.
— Robert C. Byrd, in a letter to Sen. Theodore Bilbo (D-MS), 1944
In 1946, Byrd wrote a letter to a Grand Wizard stating, "The Klan is needed today as never before, and I am anxious to see its rebirth here in West Virginia and in every state in the nation." However, when running for the United States House of Representatives in 1952, he announced "After about a year, I became disinterested, quit paying my dues, and dropped my membership in the organization. During the nine years that have followed, I have never been interested in the Klan." He said he had joined the Klan because he felt it offered excitement and was anti-communist."
Aren't we lucky to have someone like you on this site, I wonder what other interesting people you've met...
Dude. I've met Hillary's college mentor. Incredibly smart guy, and about the furthest thing possible from a KKK member. Where did you hear that piece of s* anyway, @RamsayBolton?
Also, genuinely curious... Where do you get most of your "facts?" Breitbart is not credible, just btw.
You might want to be careful about reaping what you sow if you support these people.
Hillary's mentor was LITERALLY in the KKK. Hillary was also supported by the Saudi Royal family, who are worth over a TRILLION dollars. Needless to say their economy is benefiting them a Hell of a lot more than it's benefiting the ordinary people. It's also practically an open secret that they funded Al-Qaeda, and a are funding ISIS as well as being the birthplace of Wahabi-ism, the most extreme form of Islam. You might want to ask yourself what they were expecting in return for supporting Hillary - who openly talked about shutting down media outlets who didn't support her and offering citizenship to illegal immigrants - which is basically legalised bribery to future voters. This is exactly the sort of thing the Italian Fascist Party did to cement their power.
It's also important to remember that George Soros, who funds everything from the Democrats to Black Lives Matter, and Hillary to Antifa, is a LITERAL Nazi collaborator. He described his time in Nazi controlled Hungary as the best time of his life.
The great thing for progressives is that history has shown that there are no negative consequences for the rise of authoritarianism. The fact that the Stalin's of this world regard you as useful idiots is neither here nor there. If you think that someone like James Damore deserves to be fired for bringing attention to a massive preponderance of scientific evidence then you are an authoritarian and the Stalin's of the world view you as just as disposable as James Damore, Richard Spencer or anyone else.
