Sowing the Seeds for Food Justice

Farmers of color in the South give us models for how to create racial equity in our food systems.

Food justice activist Dara Cooper authored a report for Race Forward and the Center for Social Inclusion exploring the structural inequities in America's food systems that strip Black farmers of their land, systematically deny farmers of color opportunities from the USDA and limit their access to resources.

The farmers of color featured in the report offer models of food hubs, co-ops and other alternatives that upend these systems provide healthy food to everyone in their communities.
