Celebrations of Healing, Resilience, and Resistance

-edited

Celebrations are medicine...tune in this week to learn how New Mexico celebrates to heal and resist.

This week, GJ youth producers join community members and healers in Albuquerque as they remind us how healing can be fun, especially with community. We meet Anamarie Rael, Sylvia Ledesma, and Julie Zuniga. These "Promotoras Tradicionales" all belong to Kalpulli Izkalli (House of Light) community healing. They share about their 9th Annual Encuentro de Medicina Tradicional (gathering of traditional medicine), and Doña Predicanda Perea. We'll also hear from Father Frank Quintana, a founding pastor of the Blessed Oscar Romero Catholic Community in Albuquerque. Father Frank practices liberation theology which uplifts the poor and oppressed, and he joins GJ to share about the legacy of Oscar Romero, a newly canonized saint. If you're in the Albuquerque area, there is still time to celebrate Indigenous resistance and culture, hear the details in our community calendar!
