9.9.18: RezSpit- Indigenous Youth Poetry

New Mexico's only Indigenous Youth Poetry Collective uses slam to highlight the lived experiences of native people

This week on Generation Justice, we bring RezSpit Slam Poetry to the airwaves!

RezSpit is an Indigenous Youth Poetry Collective coached by former Albuquerque Poet Laureate, Jessica Helen Lopez. Through slam poetry, RezSpit highlight the lived experiences of native people. They share their journey of coming together and how they became a performance collective, opening for art Rez Art X and preparing for their upcoming TED Talk.

We are joined by Emily Jaramillo, KC Garcia-Charlie, Zayn Begay and Maiyah King, 4 of the 6 members of RezSpit. Also, coach, Jessica Helen Lopez, who is well known in our community as a former Albuquerque Poet Laureate! She is nationally recognized as a slam poet, and holds the title of 2012 and 2014 Women of the World (WOW) championship. Don't miss this moving production!
