A Great Day for Pakistan and Humanity

Qasim Rashid Esq.

It is a great day for Pakistan and indeed all humanity. Asia Bibi has been acquitted of alleged blasphemy and her death sentence overturned. She should never have been sent to prison in the first place—even if she had committed blasphemy. There is no worldly punishment blasphemy in Islam. Anti-blasphemy laws are an affront to humanity and must be rejected outright. Godspeed Asia Bibi.

From BBC:

> Asia Bibi was convicted in 2010 after being accused of insulting the Prophet Muhammad in a row with her neighbours.

> She always maintained her innocence, but has spent most of the past eight years in solitary confinement.

> The landmark ruling has already set off violent protests by hardliners who support strong blasphemy laws.
