James Comey just accused Donald Trump of a thought crime
Former FBI director James Comey, in a recent CNN town hall, told host Anderson Cooper that yes indeed, based on Special Counsel Robert Mueller's redacted Russia collusion report, "it sure looks like" President Donald Trump had "criminal intent" to commit obstruction. In other words, Comey is accusing the president of a thought crime.
This is rich. Former FBI Director James Comey is rather certain that the redacted Mueller report shows that President Trump had "criminal intent" to obstruct justice.
Think about that for just a moment. This is the very same James Comey who, as FBI Director, admitted that Hillary Clinton had a secret, personal email server, knew that it was illegal, handled classified material on it (knowing that that was also illegal), lied about all of that, illegally deleted emails, destroyed evidence (BleachBit and hammers), and a raft of other offenses.
But he didn't think she had any criminal intent, so he wasn't recommending prosecution or even empaneling a grand jury.
Just another day in Washington.
