Minstrel show as explained by WIKIPEDIA: “The minstrel show, or minstrelsy, was an American form of entertainment developed in the early 19th century. Each show consisted of comic skits, variety acts, dancing, and music performances that depicted people specifically of African descent. The shows were performed by white people in make-up or blackface for the purpose of playing the role of black people. There were also some African-American performers and all-black minstrel groups that formed and toured under the direction of white people. Minstrel shows lampooned black people as dim-witted, lazy, buffoonish, superstitious, and happy-go-lucky.”
JUST MY OPINION: A white person in black face is not the problem. The problem is all of these modern day minstrel shows in which the entertainers are paid very well at the pleasure of their White caretakers.
One of the most popular African-American movie series is that of a man in a dress portraying the role of a loud and aggressive Black female. I watched the first two movies, I laughed and then I moved on. I know of very few people who have not heard of Madea a modern day minstrel show that I can think of.
I have not watched but have seen previews and heard conversations about various reality television shows in which the family issues are played out for all to see. I did watch Duck Dynasty for a while and I have read and reviewed Phil Robertson’s latest book: THE THEFT OF AMERICA’S SOUL. The networks, plantations, call the shows “reality television” but it is just another minstrel show; unlike other reality shows the Robertson’s were willing to have their show taken off the air rather than compromise their faith.
Having a homosexual black male, who is in a relationship with a white male, become emotional on national television is entertaining.
A group of Black men who are paid millions of dollars protest the unfair treatment of Black males in America is a soap opera gone wild!
When a person is made aware how groups like Black Lives Matter are sponsored by White males it should become clear that they too are part of the minstrel show.
African-Americans loyal to the Democrat party fail to recognize how entertaining they are to the very people they vote for. They are not insulted by the patronizing demonstration of Hillary Clinton when she stood up in a Black church and acted as if she was “down with the homies” as she said: I don’t feel no ways tired, with a southern accent. Slave masters are very good at humoring the servants to get the maximum work/ vote out of them. (Free phone anyone?)
As you re-read the Wikipedia definition of Minstrel Show think about what is written: “There were also some African-American performers and all-black minstrel groups that formed and toured under the direction of white people.”
“Under the direction of White people.” I am under the direction of my God; I am not loyal to any political organization and I am not here on this planet to entertain you. I am not part of the entertainment committee, why are you? Written by Marsha L F Randolph
