Statue of Leyla Hussein Unveiled in London

Project to honour inspiring women unveils new statue to recognise Leyla Hussein's work to end female genital mutilation

There are 925 public statues in the UK. Of these, 158 are women, and only 25 are women that are non-royal and non-mythical. put her forward is an art project by non zero one that will double the amount of non-royal, non-mythical statues of women in the UK.

After seeking nominations from the public the project team selected 25 inspirational living women to be the subjects for 3D printed statues which will be unveiled to coincide with Heritage Open Days across England during this month.

Leylas statue was unveiled on September 11 at the Sutton House in East London, England where she was joined by family, friends and her sister campaigners against FGM to celebrate all the activists who are part of the the work to end FGM.
