This story was created in a workshop organized and led by StoryCenter (www.storycenter.org), in collaboration with Sahiyo: United to End Female Genital Cutting (sahiyo.com). In this deeply honest piece, Salma talks about the silencing of any discussion about feelings, in her family, and then reveals her memories of undergoing khatna (female genital cutting), which she buried deep within herself for years. Now, Salma is finding that talking about her experience is making her braver, and she hopes her story will do the same for others.
