#FEMALEPLEASURE is a plea for the liberation of female sexuality in the 21st century. This new film questions millennial patriarchal structures, as well as the – now commonplace - porn culture. It accompanies five extraordinary women around the globe, reveals universal contexts and shows the successful fight for a self-determined female sexuality and an equal, sensual relationship between the sexes.
Magool founder Leyla Hussein was delighted to be able to work with film director Barbara Miller on this inspiring new documentary and being part of the film has been an emotional and empowering experience. Speaking at the Locarno Film Festival where the film had its global premiere on Sunday 5th August Leyla commented, "I was honoured and humbled to be invited to be part of Barbara's film. For girls and women to lead their lives free from oppression, coercion and violence is at the heart of my work as a psychotherapist and activist. I have always been very clear that female genital mutilation is just one way to control women and is part of of a global problem which manifests in many ways to deny women their rights and control of their own sexuality. I am in awe of the other women featured in the film and inspired by them. I hope that together we will inspire many others."
