Communities working together to end FGM
Hoda Ali is a UK based campaigner, nurse, community outreach project manager and a survivor of Female Genital Mutilation (FGM). She recently travelled to Senegal to learn about a human rights and development programme which is supporting community led work to end FGM.
Writing about her experience for Thomson Reuters Foundation News, Hoda explains how her 10 day visit to Senegal has given her new insights into how the social attitudes that underpin FGM can be challenged and the harmful cycle of abuse broken. She has been inspired in her work as an activist and community programme manager in the UK by seeing first hand the lasting change in the Senegalese villages and hearing the testimony of those taking part in the change programme.
