This story was created in a workshop organized and led by StoryCenter (www.storycenter.org), in collaboration with Sahiyo: United to End Female Genital Cutting (sahiyo.com).
In this poignant story, Aisha, who experienced female genital mutilation when she was five years old, talks about feeling betrayed when she overhears her mother urging an aunt not to have her daughter undergo the procedure. Aisha also addresses the ways that Somali women and girls who are not cut face stigma, by their peers and by men in the community.
Sahiyo conducted the first-ever international, online survey of Bohra women on the subject of Female Genital Cutting. Read the full report HERE Are you from the media?
