Press Release — Announcing the 2016 San Francisco Freedom Forum
Human Rights Foundation (HRF) is excited to announce that the San Francisco Freedom Forum will take place on September 29, 2016. This event is an opportunity to enjoy the Oslo Freedom Forum experience and meet remarkable individuals who are working to make the world a more peaceful, prosperous, and free place.
In partnership with Humanity United, the Freedom Forum will gather a community of dissidents, technologists, business leaders, activists, philanthropists, artists, and journalists for an unforgettable experience to hear inspiring stories from the front lines of the struggle for freedom. Confirmed speakers include an Afghan tech entrepreneur dedicated to teaching girls computer science; a North Korean defector whose book, The Girl With Seven Names, is a worldwide best-seller; a Chinese-Canadian beauty queen unafraid to speak out against the regime in Beijing; a young woman from Nepal trying to end child marriage; a French-Moroccan Charlie Hebdo journalist who has risked everything for press freedom; a Cuban democracy activist committed to avenging the murder of her father by the state; an author whose latest book exposes the dictatorship of Paul Kagame in Rwanda; an American lawyer taking the cases of disenfranchised citizens around the world; a Ukrainian viral video star trying to combat corruption in her country; and a Syrian activist who helped found Raqqa is Being Slaughtered Silently, an NGO bravely smuggling video out of the capital of ISIS-controlled territory.

Programming will also include live art and performances, as well as an interactive expo that will highlight organizations and products at the intersection of technology and human rights. Topics to be explored include encryption, virtual reality, censorship evasion, and activists using education and information to challenge dictatorships.
The Freedom Forum will begin the morning of Thursday, September 29, in downtown San Francisco at the Regency Center. That night, HRF will celebrate its first decade with a 10 Year Celebration dinner.
