#50SimpleThings Tip #24: Use containers to store food instead of plastic wrap or foil

One of the best ways to walk more lightly on the world is by using reusable containers to store your food instead of plastic wrap or foil!

Did you know that America alone produces enough plastic film/wrap to shrink wrap the entire state of Texas each year! That’s a crazy amount and remember that this stuff won’t biodegrade for generations to come; and when it does it will leach many harmful chemicals. By choosing to get something that you can use over and over and over again, you are able to make a huge impact.

“But a box of foil or a box of plastic wrap only costs $3! Containers cost $20! It’s so much cheaper!” Unfortunately, this is common misconception about food storage. Yes, at first glance, it would seem that containers are so much more expensive than plastic wrap or foil. However, at a closer look, that’s not quite the reality. Once you buy a container you’ll be able to use it for a long time opposed to having to always replace plastic wrap or foil, meaning in the long run you will actually save money! So do your wallet and the earth a favor and go the reusable route; we promise you won't regret it https://www.facebook.com/images/emoji.php/v8/f4c/1/16/1f642.png:)
