In fact, it is estimated that bycatch(non-target animals who are caught in fishing nets) amounts for a whopping 40 percent of the world’s catch, which is a staggering 63 billion pounds per year, and it is considered to be one of the largest threats to marine ecosystems.
Several large whale sharks were recently found trapped in a fishing net, and despite their massive size, they could not compete with the tools of man. A group of heroic divers dove in to save them, and the footage is absolutely breathtaking. The whale sharks are gentle and peaceful, and they are so grateful to be freed that they stay for a swim with their rescuers.
