Although this may sound like a gloomy forecast of a Utopian future, these are the realities that we face in the current age. With the likes of Elon Musk and other tech giants giving a fearful warning of a potential future ran by AI, many of the scientists and programmers behind the emerging technologies are stating otherwise. To understand the scientists' point of view, it's essential to understand what machine learning and AI entails and how it differentiates itself from regular code. In a sense, machine learning is a series of algorithms that are designed to analyze large sets of data and find patterns within that information. In simple terms, this could equate to shopping patterns within a population based on seasonal changes, search engine queries based on political events or traveling plans according to weather forecasts.

Whatever the case may be, it's easy to foresee a future where machine learning not only makes our lives easier, but gives us an insight into the near future. Predictability gives us an illuminating peek into other options and pieces of content that may be pertinent or interesting to us. Protection Against Outside Threats

Although one of the biggest areas that machine learning and AI rears its face is within the commerce sector, certain software and hardware solutions are made available to make the public safe. In fact, an article released by Rafael Pierre, a Towards Data Science contributor, recently talked about how machine learning is tackling the 32-billion-dollar credit card fraud industry.

Pierre goes on to illustrate how data sets can be analyzed to understand the buying patterns of a potential fraudster. According to the algorithms put in place, major credit card companies can accurately detect rather the person using the card is making fraudulent purchases. As good as this sounds, Pierre believes it's far from perfect and lends itself to errors in judgment on account of imbalanced data. Moving into the future we can gather more data points and draw from a larger pool of potential threats to make these algorithms work more efficiently. Trusting certain companies, like Spark ML, improves our ability to operate as a society more elegantly in upcoming years.


Even more interesting is how machine learning is impacting the healthcare field. Markus Lippus, Co-Founder of MindTitan, recently illustrated how AI is used to accurately diagnose health-related problems through imaging. He further goes on to exclaim how algorithms may be used to gather the entire medical history of a patient to predict upcoming medical problems unbeknownst to healthcare providers. Although the technology is still blooming, Lippus believes machine learning is forging a new path into the future of healthcare.
