This Man is Helping Sudanese Refugees to Farm in Uganda

Soro Steward works in the Bidi Bidi refugee camp and teaches migrants how to grow food to feed their families.

A compassionate refugee policy has led Uganda to welcome 800,000 people escaping conflict and famine in South Sudan. But the strain is starting to show. Roughly 3.5 million South Sudanese people – at least one-quarter of the entire country’s population – have had to leave their homes since war broke out in 2013. As international support has been meager, Soro Steward has taken it upon himself to try to and save his countrymen forced to flee their homes and live in the camps by teaching them how to grow food.
