Swale is New York's floating forest. It was built on top of a barge and travels to different piers in New York City. This floating forest offers educational programming on board. It welcomes visitors to harvest herbs, fruits and vegetables for free.
Swale is the only water-based, public food forest in the country. Their goal is to make it easier for New Yorkers to connect with the food they are eating, AND for youth to experience urban agriculture. Also to cut down on the waste associated with importing foods, and making better use of our public space.
Vegetables grown on a floating forest that is FREE to any visitor in New York City, doesn't get much better than that!
