Norway Could Become the World’s First Fully Electric Powered Country

The country will pursue 100 percent clean power to reduce harmful emissions, generate new jobs and create new technologies.

Norway has its sights set on becoming the world’s first fully electric-powered country, reports Gabriel Samuels of The Independent. According to a new report from Energy Norge, an energy think tank, the country can assuage dual problems of climate change and oil industry job losses by pushing for greater sustainability.

The plan for 100 percent clean power follows a recent declaration from Norwegian ministers prohibiting the sale of all vehicles powered by fossil fuels. More than 110,000 electric cars are currently in use in the country, and according to analysts, Norway’s new ambitions will pave the way for greater emission reductions while fostering new jobs and technologies.
